The greatest healing miricle

THE GREATEST HEALING MIRICLE

To help us review the right method for comparing the greatest healing miracle let us look at the progression of right habit of living and the treatment of the sick. Miracles should not be explained by reasonable deduction or the compilation of facts. we are all familiar with the law of Moses in the Old Testament. It was given by God to the Children of Israel and they included how to care for the sick, specified clean and unclean foods, the proper disposal of waste and contaminated items and provided instructions on frequent bathing. The Hebrews experienced good health when they followed these laws and deteriorating health when violated. During the fifth century the father of medicine Hippocrates from Greece he believed every disease had its cause and a discovery for the cause could prevent its illness. During the reign of the Roman empire the engineers built a system of great aqueducts. these aqueducts carried up to 40 million gallons of water a day throughout the city making personal cleanliness a priority. At the decline of the Roman empire there developed much less interest in matters of health. moats around castles occasionally contained sewage, eating establishments where not swept allowing food to accumulate on the floors for days and personal bathing was neglected. In the 14th century the Black Death struck Europe. one third of the population died mainly due to the bubonic plaque. It is now understood that the germs causing the bubonic plaque was carried by fleas that lived on rats which thrived in the unsanitary conditions.

There was a gradual awaking in 1538 Versalius a young Belgian doctor who lived in Italy studied and published a book showing drawings of muscle, bone and organs. A century later William Harvey the personal physician of King James published a book on circulation. Malpighi in 1661 used a newly invented microscope to discover how blood transfers from artery to veins by capillaries. Eighteen century Europe faced the death of approximately 60 million people from Small Pox. In America the dam problem of small pox in 1721 caused 1/2 the population of Boston to be infected and one out of seven infected individuals died. Through scientific research Dr Edward Jenner in England develo0ed the vaccination for smallpox which led to the elimination of the disease. William T.G. Morton proved that Ether breathed by a patient could prevent them from feeling pain. Chloroform was discovered a year later which opened up the way to perform prolonged surgical procedure on patient.
By the mid 1800 doctors still did not know the that germ caused disease and most surgeons wore their street clothes to the operating room and surgical instrument were not sterilized. By 1856 Dr Joseph Lister discovered certain chemical could decrease infection rates. Prior to 1950 patient care was poorly understood. Florence Nightingale in 1844 was called the lady with the lamp due to her revolutionizing the field of nursing. Louis Pasteur from France by experimentation on the Germ Theory discovered that bacteria in milk and wine could cause sickness and they could be killed by heat. The process of pasteurizing comes from his invention research of heating up milk to kill the bacteria and mold present in 1862. Edward L. Trudeau developed TB in 1873 3 yrs after finishing medical school and having earlier nursed his brother before his death from TB, developed the first Sanitarium for the treatment of tuberculosis.
Major Walter Reed proved in 1900 that yellow fever was caused by a germ on a mosquito. Scientific knowledge has increased with improvement in medical equipment and the development of drugs, advances in surgical techniques, research and an emphasis on disease prevention instead of disease cure. All back where we started from in Lev when we are given instruction on disease prevention. It has taken us a long time to get here. If so far I have convinced you where we are now, what do you think Jesus thoughts where when he ministered here for three and a half years. He performed miracles to restore people to wholeness. He was a walking health fair, medical clinic, emergency room, hospital, recovery room, rehabilitation center, nursing home and research center. Where was his thoughts on the subject. Well let us look at some of his healing miracles.

Matt 8:3 Leper heard of Jesus healing ministry and hoped He could help him. Jesus was teaching by the lake and the leper was at a distance. He heard his sayings and witnessed the health restored to the lame and blind and with healing comes praises to His Name. Faith strengthens in his heart. He approaches Jesus in the center of the crowd scattering the people. Then falls to his feet and says Lord if thou wilt, thou can make me clean. Jesus says I will, Be thou made clean and he laid his hand on him. Immediately, a change occurred with his flesh becoming healthy, nerves sensitive and muscle firm.

Mark 2:1 Paralytic at Capernaum had lost all hope of recovery due to being pronounced incurable by his doctors and the Pharisees. He heard of Jesus healing powers for incurable conditions but knew his disease was related to his sinful state. his greater burden was to go to Jesus and seek for forgiveness of his sins. Jesus happen to be teaching in the house of Peter and because of the crowd around him this man even with his friends carrying him was not able to reach the Source of forgive power. His friends carried him to the roof and let him down to through it so he could experience a moment with Jesus. Jesus witnesses his acceptance of Him as his Savior and goes beyond his paralyzed limbs to see an repentant spirit. Son be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven thee.

Mark 3:4-5 On the Sabbath day a man with a withered hand entered the synagogue and he met the Lord of the Sabbath Jesus but the Pharisees where waiting to see if he would violate their traditional laws. Jesus says It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath Days or to do evil? To save life or to kill?. The man was told to stretch his hand and it was restored like the other, whole.
John 4 43-54 Noble man of Capernaum has a son that was very sick w an incurable disease. This father went to Jesus in hope of getting his son healed. Jesus had been traveling the dusty roadside and did not look like a famous healer but rather a tired, dusty, weary, traveler who had no appearance that He Jesus could take care of himself. Except ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe. The nobleman sons life rested in this dusty traveler and his faith in Jesus depended on his son's death or life. This nobleman could not look for a fulfillment of his prayers before believing Jesus' power to heal. When his faith in Jesus ability to heal his son matched his hope for healing he heard Jesus say "go thy way, thy son liveth" That hour his son was made whole.
John 5 At the pool called Bethesda a helpless cripple was waiting for the agitation of the waters long since abandoned by family and friends. He hears the voice of Jesus. Wilt thou be made whole? Finally someone to help him but the waters were not moving and this voice like all other voices would also abandon him. Jesus simply says take up your bed and walk. That man grabbed his stuff and started walking. He walked past the Scribes and Pharisees all the way to the temple. There Jesus reunited with him and said to him Behold thou art made whole, sin no more, lest a worst thing come unto thee.

Mat 8:5 Centurion Servant was stricken with palsy and laid on his death bed. The Centurion requested through the Jewish elders for Jesus to consider healing his Servant "but speak the word only". No greater faith was found in Israel that day by Jesus and the Centurion servant was healed that same hour.

Matt 9:23 Jairus ruler of the Synagogue found Jesus at the feast with Publicans at the home of Levi-Mathew. His daughter was at the point of death and he requested Jesus to come and lay healing hands on her. Jesus leaves the gathering and on the way encounter a women with an issue of bleeding. She touches his garment in faith of being healed and is made whole by the virtue that leave Him. Who touched me? In route to his home a messenger comes and reports that Jairus daughter has died but Jesus says "fear not Believe only and she will be made whole" One touch restores her living vibrant life back to her thankful parents.
